CoolMind aims to provide an intuitive, engaging, and inviting platform for meditation. By offering guided meditations and simplified categories, the app promotes user satisfaction, loyalty, and healthy mindfulness habits — targeting stressed employees and individuals coping with daily challenges.

Design Process

User-Centered Design (UCD):
Focused on empathizing with users and defining key pain points to craft a tailored meditation experience.

Brainstorming & Research:

  • Collaborated with diverse individuals to identify gaps in competitor apps.
  • Defined the primary target audience and segmented users.
  • Prioritized pain points based on user interviews and personas.
My Design Process — UCD

Pain Points & Solutions

  1. Onboarding Experience:
Challenge: New users found navigation confusing.
Solution: Introduced a guided tutorial demo during the first app launch to simplify the experience.
  2. Complex Categories:
Challenge: Meditation categories (adults, children, elders) were overwhelming.
Solution: Simplified categories with engaging visuals and clear labels for easy navigation.
  3. User Engagement:
Challenge: Lack of community and personalization reduced motivation.
    Solution: Added:
  • A social element for community interaction.
  • Mood-based meditation recommendations.
  • A progress tracker to visualize personal growth.

Cost & Accessibility:
Challenge: High costs and limited reach of meditation programs.
Solution: Introduced online video e-courses, minimizing costs and expanding access via social media promotion.

Customer Value Proposition

CoolMind helps users cultivate mindfulness by tailoring meditations to their moods and lifestyles. With features like progress tracking, a social community, and guided tutorials, users stay engaged and committed to their goals.

Prototyping and Validation

  • Created Lo-Fi sketches to address pain points, followed by Hi-Fi mockups using Adobe XD.
  • Conducted usability tests with 5 new users through tools like Usability Hub and Zoom.

Key Changes After Validation:

  1. Simplified categories further with mood-based visuals.
  2. Enhanced the onboarding tutorial for better clarity and engagement.
Empathy Mapping
Journey Mapping

I want to be able to find meditations for bedtime so that I get a restful night's sleep every night I meditate.

I want a cool meditation app to point me in the direction of where I need to go so I stay focused as I have a tendency towards boredom.

I want to easily find meditations for my mood so that I don’t lose my patience and commit to the process.

I want to have an app that has programs relevant to me and my lifestyle so that I can get the most value from my meditation.

I want an app that intuitively knows what I want so that I don’t have to unnecessarily think about what to select next.

I want an app where I can see my progress so that I know that I’m moving forward with my mediatation goals in a positive direction.

Ideating Solution

I came up with several potential solutions to each of the pain points and made some rough Lo-Fi sketches.

Lo-Fi
User-Flow Map

I did some preliminary validation using the user-flow map and did some Lo-Fi iteration model sketches with the internal team and used the feedback to refine my sketches and narrow down my solutions for the Hi-Fi mockups.

Final Recommendations

  1. Engaging Visuals: Simplify meditation categories with images and icons.
